Jamie Fernandes, executive director for Institute Budget Planning and Administration, has been selected as interim vice president for Finance and Planning and chief financial officer for the Institute. This announcement follows Jim Fortner’s appointment to the role of vice president and deputy chief business officer earlier this year.

Fernandes will begin her new role on June 1. She will report directly to Shantay N. Bolton, executive vice president for Administration and Finance, and join the president’s cabinet.  

"Jamie is a consummate budget management professional who engages in transparent collaboration, seeks input from diverse stakeholders, and continuously adapts to feedback. She has a proven track record in financial leadership that will be invaluable during this transitional period,” said Bolton. “She has been instrumental in leading the institutional budget reform work that is underway and I am pleased for her to join the team as the interim vice president for Finance and Planning and chief financial officer. I am confident that Jamie will provide the strategic vision and operational excellence necessary to guide our institution’s financial planning teams as we embark on a national search for the next leader of the unit.”   

Fernandes joined ɫ���� in 2019 as executive director for Institute Budget Planning and Administration and is responsible for the preparation, monitoring, and administration of the Institute’s annual $3.1 billion budget. Since 2021, Fernandes has led ɫ����’s efforts to transform the Institute’s budget process with a focus on increasing transparency, accountability, and cost containment. Before joining ɫ����, Jamie served the state of ɫ���� and other University System of ɫ���� institutions, including Kennesaw State University as well as ɫ���� State University and ɫ���� Perimeter College, where she was instrumental in supporting the consolidation of the two schools.

Jennifer Hubert, associate vice president for Finance and Planning, is chairing the search committee to select the next vice president for Finance and Planning and chief financial officer for the Institute. The search firm supporting this process will be Buffkin Baker.
